Boxing for Beginners: What to Expect in Your First Two Classes at OFC

Trying something new can be intimidating, especially when it involves gloves, bags, and fast music. But your first two classes at OFC are designed to make you feel comfortable, confident, and excited to come back.

Whether you’re brand new to boxing or haven’t worked out in a while, these classes will give you everything you need to get started. Here’s what to expect from your first two sessions.

Class One: Getting Comfortable

Your first class is all about learning the basics and getting familiar with how things flow.

Here’s what you can expect:

  • Warm welcome. Our coaches will introduce themselves, show you around, and help you get set up with gloves and wraps.
  • Light warm-up. We’ll get your heart rate up with easy movement to loosen your muscles.
  • Simple combinations. You’ll learn the basic punches — jab, cross, hook, and uppercut — and how to put them together.
  • Controlled pace. The focus is on learning form and having fun, not on keeping up with everyone else.
  • Community feel. Expect high-fives, smiles, and encouragement from members who were once in your shoes.

You’ll leave your first class sweaty, proud, and surprised by how fast it went by.

Class Two: Finding Your Rhythm

Once you’ve got the basics down, your second class builds on what you learned. This is where you start feeling the rhythm of the workout and get a taste of what regular members experience.

Here’s what to expect in class two:

  • Faster transitions. You’ll already know how the rounds and circuits work, which helps you settle into the flow.
  • More combos. You’ll start linking punches together with a little more confidence and coordination.
  • Strength rounds. Expect to mix in short, focused strength circuits that target your core, shoulders, and legs.
  • Energy boost. You’ll feed off the music, the lighting, and the energy in the room.
  • A real sense of accomplishment. This is when most people realize how fun and empowering boxing fitness really is.

By the end of your second class, you’ll feel like part of the team.

What to Bring (and What You Don’t Need)

Bring a water bottle, wear something comfortable, and be ready to move. If you have your own gloves and wraps, great. If not, we have what you need to get started.

No need for fancy gear or experience. Just show up and bring your effort.

Tips for Your First Two Classes

Arrive 15 minutes early. It gives you time to meet the coach and get set up before class starts.

Ask questions. Our coaches are here to teach and love helping beginners get the hang of things.

Pace yourself. Take breaks when you need to and focus on form over speed.

Have fun. You’ll work hard, laugh, and probably surprise yourself with how much you enjoy it.
